This past weekend was a productive one! We started off Saturday becoming an official married couple and adding me to Nelson's bank account. Better hurry up and shop before I have to move all my money over :) That afternoon, Beth and I did one of those BYOB painting classes. I signed us up for the class as Beth's birthday present, and we had so much fun painting poppies and drinking margaritas in our matching aprons!
If you haven't heard of these classes before (although they're becoming quite popular), an art teacher stands in the front and teaches you how to paint a picture within 5 or 6 steps. Different classes do different pictures, but here is the evolution of mine:
And our finished paintings!
I've realized I can't do curved lines very well, I like them straight. So we signed up to do an Austin themed one in March - less curves :) Nelson and I also spent Saturday cleaning house.
I have such a helpful husband :) On Sunday, we worked on furnishing our house! We looked at TV consoles, coffee tables, and bedroom furniture. We looked at a lot of different places and I took a lot of pictures so we would remember what we liked. When we get everything in, I'll be sure to share some pictures! I had Sunday off for President's Day and Nelson didn't, so I spent the day with my next favorite guy - Jackson!!! Lindsay was so nice to let me come over and hold him for six hours... Yes, I think I calculated it was six hours. My mom came over, too, and Abby stopped by for a bit. We all had fun visiting, looking and talking about Jackson, and helping Lindsay make his birth announcement. As for what Jackson did most of the day, well, you can see.
When saying the title of this post, you have to sing it like Aerosmith's "Janie's Got A Gun" song. Don't know it?
Anyway, Nelson surprised me at work today by driving up for lunch! He also brought a beautiful vase of flowers and chocolate covered strawberries - YUM!
We went to Potbelly's for lunch, so nice and low key. It was definitely fun and super thoughtful of him to do. Do I even have to say how delicious the strawberries were? Beth and I ate them all. That day.
On my way home, I picked up Nelson for dinner. We went to Hopdoddy's on South First Street. I had never been before, but obviously heard a lot about it from everyone. It wasn't as crowded as it usually is (so Nelson said), so we assume most people stayed in tonight. Both of our hamburgers were delicious, we shared some greasy fries, and I had to have one of their famous shakes.
I love giving gifts, especially if they're surprises and something that I know the person will love. It's fun to watch their face, so I made sure to snap a picture of Nelson's when he opened his present:
Nelson has been talking a lot about guns, mainly because everyone else in our families have one. His dad has been going to the range and it seemed like something Nelson was truly interested in, but would never get for himself. So I had my friend, Marcus, who works in Cabella's gun library, let me know when they got something in. We are now proud owners of a Smith & Wesson Military and Police :) Don't worry, we have no bullets. Yet.
This is also a good time to tell the story of my mom scaring us (mainly me) half to death. At 11:30pm last night, Nelson was watching something on his iPad with headphones and I was trying to go to sleep. All of a sudden, I heard the garage door open. I quickly shook Nelson and ripped the headphones out of his ears. He heard the tail end of the door going up, so suggested it was the heater. I told him it wasn't, so he got up to investigate. Well, I've seen enough scary movies to know what happens to the stupid people that go up in the dark, creepy attic to check out a noise. I quickly told Nelson to set the alarm, so he did. In my head, that told me we would know if someone came in or not. And then we heard the garage door, again, and all I could think was, "Oh no. He's in." Nelson didn't get think anything of this until he realized just how terrified I was. He then suggested I call my mom, to which I said, "Why? What's she going to do?" Well, I called my mom's cell and she answered her phone, "I'm sorry, did I wake you up?" WHAT?!?! Yes, my mom came to our house, used our garage keypad to get in the garage, and left our Valentine's Day presents so we'd have them first thing in the morning :) I have the sweetest mom in the world! But good thing the gun was wrapped and on the other side of the house. And had no bullets. I also wanted to share my favorite Valentine message. Lindsay sent me this picture with the note "We love you!" I absolutely love looking at that sweet face :)
My dad and Patty came in town for Grandma's birthday today, so we all celebrated together at Lindsay and Ben's house (since it was easier for them). We had Railroad BBQ - the same BBQ from our wedding - and it was just as good! We had a lot of fun catching up, laughing, and (of course) starring at Jackson.
I also took the opportunity to give Jackson his Valentine's Day present! Rather than get him an outfit or shoes that he'll grow out of soon, I got a bib that says, "Auntie's Dream Date" and it couldn't be more true :)
As you can tell, I can't put this boy down.
Happy birthday, Grandma! I hope you had a wonderful day and know how loved you are!
For my birthday, Nelson got us tickets to see The Lion King at Bass Concert Hall. We got tickets for Saturday night - the same night that his friend, Justin, and his wife, Melissa, were going. So we made a couples date night out of it! We picked them up and ate dinner at Vivo Cocina Mexicana, a yummy Mexican food restaurant off Manor. I'm still learning to take pictures of everything we do, so I forgot to get a group shot at dinner. But I did remember to take a couple at the theater.
On Sunday, we resumed our homeowner duties and cleaned up the backyard. We've been "blessed" with a lot of trees, but that means there are a lot of leaves, too. Nelson bought a leaf blower that also vacuums and mulches the leaves. I spent the afternoon raking the leaves into piles, and he spent the afternoon sucking them up.
I hadn't seen Jackson all week, so of course needed my baby fix before heading over to a Super Bowl party at our small group leader's house. He's so adorable and I love just looking at his sweet face :) I ended up watching him while Lindsay and Ben ran a few errands, which was so fun!
I thought he looked a little chilly, so I covered him up in a blanket....
