Kennedy Anne {5 Months}

My dearest Kennedy,

Each month, I almost have a hard time writing these because every month is so wonderful, I can't think of new ways to describe the love I have for you. But also because each month is such a blur - hah!

You've grown so much in month five, and not just size. You're becoming such an independent little girl who is curious and inquisitive. You like to be part of the action, and don't like it when I lay you on your play-mat and leave the room (i.e. to finally go to the restroom after holding it for far too long). Your jumparoo is also one of your new favorite toys. You love to chew on the butterfly and look at the hanging animals.

Even though the pediatrician gave us the go-ahead for food, I want to do baby-led weaning, starting you on solids and skipping the baby food. To do so, you need to be able to sit-up unassisted and show an interest in our food. Most people see this at six months, so we'll just wait until you're ready.

You're sleeping has been pretty consistent, but you did go through a random rough period that had me Googling schedules and sleep regressions. You woke up a couple more times during the night which left me way more tired - going back to that newborn stage is no joke! Unfortunately, your dad and I like there to be a reason for things to happen, but whether it was a growth spurt or the sleep regression I read about, it didn't last too long. You're definitely teaching us to be more "go-with-the-flow" :) But just so I remember, you still wake anytime between 6:45am and 8:30am (I prefer the latter), take a couple naps during the day (usually a longer morning one and either one long or two short afternoon ones), and are ready to start your bedtime routine by 7:00pm or so.

A couple new things this month: You're sleeping in Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit and it makes the world of difference! I think that's what's helping you be so consistent at night. You can still self-soothe and suck on your hands, but you don't startle yourself. You also recognize us! You know I'm your mom and know when I'm not holding you. And, secretly, I love it :) Your last new thing is that you can official roll over - both ways! Rolling over tummy to back was pretty easy; you just tilted your head and the rest of you followed. But rolling from back to tummy took patience, time, and some momentum to get over that right arm. Unfortunately, you still don't like being on your tummy, so then you just get upset after you roll over. You haven't quite learned that's the end result.

You survived another roadtrip to Dallas, proved (yet, again) that you're great at dining out, and have captured even more hearts. As you grow, so does our love for you, even though I don't know how it could possibly get any bigger <3

xoxo,
Your Mom

{5 Month Stats}
  • Weight: 15lb 8oz (estimate from weighing me, and then me holding you)
  • Height: 25in-ish (this was hard, so it could be longer....)
  • Head: we didn't attempt measuring this ourselves!
  • Clothes: some 3-6 months, but mostly 6 months
  • Diapers: size 2 (still)
  • Shoes: size 1 (but you kick them off in your carseat)
  • Likes: your feet (the hands have been replaced!), your tongue, and sticking all your toys in your mouth; you love the keys from Amber (rope keychain and wooden keys); and going for walks / runs - you always fall asleep
  • Dislikes: getting out of the bathtub and putting clothes on, waking up before you're ready to wake up, and being on your tummy

Happy 2nd Birthday, Dean!

This past weekend, we made the trip up to Dallas to celebrate Dean's second birthday. You know it was a crazy fun weekend when you only got a few pictures, and of course they're all from swimming with cousins!

Dean thought it was hilarious that Kennedy was holding onto his puddle jumper :)

As you can tell, afternoons with these boys are not like our afternoons at home :)

Dean's birthday party was at a trampoline park, so everyone was just running around like crazies. It was nice not being pregnant this time, so I actually got to jump a little. My dad pretty much held Kennedy the whole time (who was exhausted from not getting a nap all day), so that left Nelson and I to play like kids!

We had a wonderful weekend, per usual, with our favorite family, celebrating our favorite 2 year old. We can't wait to see what he accomplishes this year! We love you, Dean!

When Dad's away, the girls will play

This past weekend, Andrew and Janet got married in California, so us girls stayed home while he went to celebrate. Although he was pretty sad the morning he left :(

We hung out with friends, shopped for new toys, napped, and spent a lot of quality time playing together :)

We also had another pool day (third trip in one week!) with Mimi. As you can tell, that water was very tiring.

We were so happy to have dad come home on Sunday, but look forward to our girl's weekend in the future - when we can watch fun movies, eat ice cream for breakfast, and gossip about boys :)

First Date with Eli - July 4th!

Kennedy's first Fourth of July was pretty low-key. Candice and Matt were in town to see some family, so we made plans to see them and meet Eli! They brought lunch over and we hung out, talking all thing babies - pretty much all we talk about nowadays. It was fun to see he and Kennedy interact... or just lay next to each other. We tried to get some good pictures and, as you can see, that was much harder than we thought it'd be.

Even them "sitting" across from each other didn't generate any activity.

After they left, we ended the evening with a yummy snow cone. We opted out of the fireworks this year since Kennedy really can't enjoy them, so we stayed cool and inside instead :)

While it wasn't the most eventful holiday, we had fun catching up with friends and meeting another potential suitor of Kennedy's ;)

Waterbaby Weekend

This past weekend was full of swimming for me and Kennedy - a perfect way to beat the heat. We took her to the Circle C pool for the first time, and we had another successful swim class! These lazy weekends are really the best :)
