Since I didn't have a chance to go through clothes before I went into labor, I did that right when I got home so we could wash those that fit and Kennedy could have a complete wardrobe. Nelson helped.
Friday morning we had our first doctor appointment.
Poor Kennedy has two swirls on her head. I fear the day she's like me and Lindsay and wants a perfect ponytail because that section will more than likely not be perfect.
The pediatrician decided to write a prescription for at-home photo light therapy to help with the jaundice. The guy came that night and delivered a bed and blanket. Kennedy did ok in the bed so long as she was asleep. But she doesn't like laying on her back (she prefers her side), so all her squirming moved her down and the Velcro scratched poor Kennedy's chin. So we just made sure to use the the blanket as much as we could, when feeding, holding, etc.
Saturday morning, we had the first appointment of the day at the pediatrician's office at 7:30am. Kennedy had gained the weight back - yay! - and her bilirubin levels were down, too - double yay! We spent the day napping, visiting with Cheri and Grace and Timmy, and staring at our beautiful baby :)
On Sunday, Erin and Adrian came to visit, we did our first arts & crafts project that was a Christmas ornament kid from Aunt Lindsay, and did even more staring - obviously.
Monday morning, we went back to the doctor for another weigh-in. Kennedy had gained 4oz - 2oz per day! I'm patting myself on the back :) She wore her new outfit Nelson bought her at Nordstrom the Saturday before because he "just had to" - again, wrapped around all those tiny fingers. We also did more napping and went on our first walk around the neighborhood!
Sarah came to meet Kennedy (and I can't wait to meet her baby girl next month!) and we did our own little at-home weigh-in using Nelson's food scale and a bucket. Parents of the year? I think yes.
Tuesday was spent lounging some more, the greatest part about parental leave and a newborn. But we did go check on the progress of the house! Nelson and I were excited to see they were installing cabinets and the tile floors. Kennedy was clearly not impressed by her room; she didn't even open her eyes.
There wasn't much happening the next couple of days, just sleeping and taking pictures of a sleeping baby <3
This is Kennedy's "I just had a great eating session with my face smushed against you" face. Cute, right? ;)
Friday morning, Kennedy had her first photo shoot towards becoming America's Next Top Model (aka her newborn session). The photographer had instructed us to feed her three hours before, and then keep her awake by giving her a bath, having her kick around in her diaper, and just playing with her. She wasn't a huge fan, but it actually bothered Nelson a lot more than it did Kennedy because he does NOT like seeing her uncomfortable. Luckily the photographer's studio is in her garage at her house in the same neighborhood as us, so we didn't have far to go. Of course Kennedy fell right asleep before pulling out of the driveway, but she gladly ate a lot when we got there. And then she was the best model ever. The photographer commented that she could tell I followed her instructions because Kennedy was in such a deep sleep. It also helped that it was about 85 degrees in the studio, and there were three sound machines going at once: white noise, heart beat, and "shh shh shh". Some other people *cough* Nelson *cough* also took a little nap. But the pictures started out just us two girls, and then Kennedy and Nelson (where she pooped and peed on his arm, but he didn't care, which just goes to show how crazy he is about her), and then just precious Kennedy. I can't wait to see the proofs!
We spent the rest of the day catching up on that lost sleep from the morning :)
Yesterday, Saturday, was also spent lounging and sleeping - complete with bedhead.
And today we're soaking up spending our final day as a family on leave with a two week old (!!!) since Nelson goes back to work tomorrow. We're all so sad!
And don't worry, every post won't be pictures of a sleeping baby and story-less. But I just have to document every little thing since she's changing so much and so quickly! So until then, enjoy the photo dumps :)
